Shoes Under underwhelms

September 30, 2010

I don’t know why men have such trouble understanding a woman’s need for shoes. Multiple pairs of shoes. Lots and lots of shoes.

It’s simple, really. We need a pair of shoes for every outfit, every dress, every skirt, every pair of pants, etc., that we currently own, have ever owned, or foresee owning in the future. I’m not a math major or anything, but I’m pretty sure all that adds up to infinity.

This isn’t frivolous. It’s a necessity of life. Like breathing. I breath, therefore I need shoes.

I’d love to have a whole room in my house dedicated to shoes (and jewelry, but that’s another story). Unfortunately, turns out I’m not a millionaire and the Big Man, who doesn’t understand the nobleness of my cause, isn’t willing to give up his man cave to my shoe collection.

So what’s a girl to do? Purchase the Shoes Under, of course.

Lookes like the perfect shoe storage solution.

This “space saving solution” promises to keep shoes protected from “dust, moisture, and bugs.” It holds up to 12 pairs of shoes and features a clear, zippered see-through cover and a sturdy nylon handle. I’m thinking that organizing my shoes wouldn’t be my number one concern if there were bugs in my closet, but the Shoes Under doesn’t mention anything about a handy bug zapping feature.

The picture on the box makes the Shoes Under look very sturdy and rigid.

In reality, that’s not really the case.

Hmmm… doesn’t look so “sturdy.”

The fabric and compartment dividers are very lightweight  To compensate, I used the packaging box to reinforce the bottom of it.

The Shoes Under box came in handy as a lining for the bottom.

It also claims to have a sturdy nylon handle. That depends on how you define sturdy, I guess. I will freely admit that flip flops are not a featured item in my shoe wardrobe. For me, they rank right up there with 9-inch stilettos in the not-good-for-my-feet department. So naturally, my Shoes Under is filled with shoes that are a bit more substantial and, therefore, weigh more than air. This might be why the handle on one of my Shoes Unders pulled right off the front.

That sturdy handle was no match for the Chick’s shoes.

Yes, it does save space and it does hold 12 pairs of shoes, as advertised. Plus, it keeps all those dust bunnies under the bed from getting lonely. Does it slide under the bed with ease? It might be more appropriate to say that it can easily be coerced under the bed. But with all those heavy shoes of mine, it ends up providing a nice arm workout for me. Gotta fit in a work out wherever you can.

My two Shoes Unders keep each other, and the dust bunnies, company under the bed.

I’m thinking the Shoes Under might make a good Halloween costume. It’s lightweight, has a zippered compartment to give me easy access to candy, and is a neutral color that will go with everything. Perfect!

She’s got the look!

What do you think?

Hilarious! Guess I’ll skip this product. Not sure the “sturdy” claim would’ve seduced me.

You’re a wiser woman than I. Apparently, I believe everything I read. 😉

I don’t really know, Amara. But I plan to find out! I’m thinking maybe taking a training course before using each product would help…

Leslie you have found your calling. Excellent and quite enjoyable writing, really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for your next chapter.

P.S. I just stand back and throw my shoes in the closet. My Big Man was squeezed out of our closet many years ago now it’s all mine!!!

Thanks, Jill! Guess I’ll have to keep working on the Big Man till I wear him down.

You are too funny. I have two underbed storage things on wheels. I just throw all of my shoes into them. Plus I have a behind-the-door shoe rack. Plus I have a hanging shoe thingie in my closet. Plus I swap out my summer and winter shoes and store the off-season shoes in Rubbermaid containers in my attic. Shoes are great to buy. Feel fat? Have a bad day in a dressing room? Buy a pair of shoes!

Totally agree on the sturdiness. I too was disappointed when I bought a few years back. Thought the advertising and pictures were misleading. Going to take your tip on using something as a base – if I don’t just donate it….I don’t think I have many shoes living in it any longer!
